Marriage Enrichment–Affair RecoveryPartners with ADHDCo-Dependency

Our Philosophy:

Our couples therapists are “marriage friendly,” as we value marital commitment and support couples who want to improve their marriages.  When marriages are in trouble, we will help support you as a couple unless there is a compelling reason not to e.g. ongoing aggression, dishonesty or degradation.   We also offer coaching and counseling services for pre-marital couples and partnered couples at every stage of their relationship.  We may occasionally recommend one or both partners receive additional counseling for a mental health concern or addiction, as both partners need to be healthy and present to maximize the benefits of couples therapy.

What to Expect:

For your convenience, we offer Couples Counseling in our Cary office during the week and some evenings. Our couples therapy is generally short-term, with an average of 6-20 sessions throughout a period of six months to a year.

Our couples therapy process is not mysterious. Along the way, couples become experts on their relationships and create their own “couples instruction manual,” gaining an understanding of what works and doesn’t work in their relationships. We will debunk many common myths about romance, relationships, and gender differences, by sharing information from research and our own clinical practice on how to make your relationship thrive.

Understanding is the first step, but we don’t stop there. We see our role as teaching, providing feedback and actively coaching you in our sessions so you can implement and sustain positive change. To this end, we will provide you with practical tools and action steps that you can integrate into your daily lives, to feel better and more satisfied with your relationship.

Our couples therapists are guided by the clinical research of John Gottman, who has studied couples’ relationships for the past 30 years with over 3,000 couples. We use research-based exercises and interventions to help couples break through barriers and find new approaches of interacting in order to achieve greater understanding, connection, intimacy and pleasure in their relationships.

Couples Counseling and ADHD
Our couples therapists also specialize in ADHD, so we recognize the impact of ADHD on relationships. Through couples counseling, you and your partner will. . .

  • Understand how adult ADHD impacts relationships
  • Discover effective treatment approaches for  Adult ADHD
  • Develop  a system for follow-through and accountability
  • Find a way to reignite passion and romance
  • Discover a process for letting go of resentment so you can stop arguing and find common ground
  • Creating an “intentional” loving relationship, with respect, warmth and empathy
